Ginny Casey & Jessi Reaves discuss about the im-prefectionist, and experimental works done in modern times (2010’s)  as a response to the Bauhaus movement in the 1900’s.

These paintings and sculptural works are creating a “sublime” vision of life. Where the experience and feelings of the viewer takes over. instead of creating visually pleasing, or “cookie cutter” works to ease the viewer. These were meant to make you think.

I was given the prompt to create a “book” from this essay by Casey & Reaves. To type set and make it interesting.

I decided to experiment right off the bat with materials. I quickly found myself using news print instead of conventional printer paper to create the “book.” I sectioned off the news print into sections numbering them to let the viewer know and read it easily while also retaining potentially “weird” and unconventional choices of media.

I created drawings of the pieces refereed to in the essay by the two artists/ authors, referencing the particular passages. Playing with scale and opacity while retaining cohesive readability was a challenge. Like the artists, I wanted people to think and wonder about my piece rather then mindlessly using it, in the comforts of their hands.
